Millionaire outsourcer Randy Altschuler (NY-01) wants voters to judge Tim Bishop by the number of jobs created in district. Well, Long Island added 17,600 jobs last year.

After weeks of claiming that the Long Island Association economic reports serve as “a non-partisan report card for Tim Bishop,” the newly revised figures show that Long Island added jobs, not lost them.

“Will Randy Altschuler admit that Congressman Bishop’s report card is actually pretty good, or will he prove once and for all that he is just a hypocrite looking to say or do anything for political gain?” said Josh Schwerin, Northeast Press Secretary at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “While it is true that Randy Altschuler’s record of creating jobs in India is second to none, its time for him to come clean and admit that the ‘non-partisan report card’ sees ‘strong economic recovery’ in Long Island under Congressman Bishop’s watch.”

Last week, Long Island Association Chief Economist Pearl Kamer was quoted in Newsday saying: "We thought the economic recovery was extremely weak when, in effect, the revisions show that Long Island experienced a strong economic recovery."

Background

Altschuler: LIA Report is Bishop’s Non-Partisan Report Card. In December 2011, Altschuler criticized Bishop over a November 2011 economic report from the Long Island Association, which indicated that Long Island had lost 12,800 jobs in the previous 12 months. Altschuler called Bishop “an unrepentant failure.” “The LIA Report paints a grim picture of Suffolk County’s economy and serves as a non-partisan report card for Tim Bishop’s five terms in Washington that would make any taxpayer cringe,” he said. Altschuler Wanted Voters to Judge Bishop Based on the LIA Report. In January 2012, Altschuler criticized Bishop over a new Long Island Association economic report, which indicated that Long Island had experienced “the steepest job losses of any labor market in New York State.” Altschuler called on Bishop to take an immediate pay cut as a result of his “poor job performance,” citing the LIA report. LIA Report: 17,600 Jobs Added to Long Island’s Economy. In March 2012, the Long Island Association revised their 2011 data to show that Long Island added 17,600 jobs between January 2011 and January 2012, placing the Nassau-Suffolk labor market second among New York metropolitan areas in annual job gains. “We thought the economic recovery was extremely weak when, in effect, the revisions show that Long Island experienced a strong economic recovery,” said Pearl Kramer, LIA’s chief economist.
