Supporters Contribute $1.2m Since January 15 as Bellone Overwhelmingly Qualifies for Democratic Line with Remarkable Grassroots Effort
BABYLON - Babylon Town Supervisor and Democratic Suffolk County Executive Candidate Steve Bellone announced today he has nearly $2 million on hand for his campaign. Steve’s supporters contributed $1.2 million since the last filing on January 15. These numbers represent record-breaking totals for a Suffolk County Executive race.
“I am thrilled with the amount of support people throughout our county have shown for my message of moving Suffolk forward together with fiscal discipline for taxpayers and aggressive economic development,” said Steve. “We are running a strong grassroots campaign and have been able to reach out to voters from Amityville to Orient Point to Huntington to Montauk. Our strong fundraising effort ensures we’ll have the resources necessary to talk to more voters, travel all around Suffolk County, and continue building momentum towards November.”
Earlier this week, Steve qualified for the Democratic ballot by submitting 16,727 signatures from voters across Suffolk County. Only 2,000 were needed to qualify for the Democratic Party line. The Democratic Party has assembled a strong grassroots campaign that has knocked on more than 100,000 doors and made more than 25,000 phone calls in the last two months.
The campaign's financial report shows $1,989,605 cash on hand between two accounts. There were more than 1,100 contributions and over 1,000 unique contributors, demonstrating Steve's broad base of support.
Steve, an Army veteran, has a strong record of results as Babylon Town Supervisor. He reduced debt every year in office, cut taxes by $4.3 million for residents this year, and eliminated red tape to attract new businesses to Long Island.
